On Stage with THE Annika Chambers (Photos)

Jamaica here. I figured I would write the blog posts as I want considering Vince isn’t the easiest to ghost for, hahaha. I can’t write most of what he says, or somehow write just grunt. Let me know if you actually read this.

November 15th — Vince and I headed out to see the fabulous Annika Chambers. Vince and Annika go way back to the good old Houston, TX days, so this one already felt special walking in.

The welcome was warm and the reunion was sweet — complete with Annika looking Vince in the eye, saying “DON’T F*** THIS UP, VINNY,” followed by a comment about how much work I’d done for him. Fair enough. I had a great time. She’s low-key one of my favorite blues performers, and I’ve been lucky to hear some truly great music this year.

Before Annika hit the stage, Backtrack Blues Band opened things up with a fun, harmonica-fueled classic/rock blues set. Being so new to Florida, we’ve only seen a handful of local blues artists so far — one of them being Kid Royal, who was up there on stage! He hosts Monday night blues at Ka’Tiki and puts on a great show with Sarasota Slim. Naturally, this was a friendly solidifier between Vince and Kid.

Vince was thrilled to be invited onstage alongside Paul DesLauriers — who is an absolute badass. It’s always fun watching Vince stand next to another beast. Paul shreds, but you don’t need me to tell you that.

Annika’s Johnny Copeland “Flyin’ High” a cappella / acoustic / unplugged moment was moving and wonderful and I absoloutely loved it. I still go back and listen to that clip. (below)

I tried to grab a few good photos — someone told me I looked like Betty Fox, so I’ll take that. Ordered DoorDash smashburgers to the parking lot. Caught Annika’s impressive high kick. My favorite moments are when it gets so steamy you feel like you either need to leave the room or grab a cuck chair. 😂

Good news: they’re playing again soon.
